Supporting the Child Transitioning from Casa to Elementary
This workshop will highlight the child's changing characteristics as they transition from the first to the second plane of development. Dr. Myesha Green and Anna Discenzo will collaborate to detail how both environments can be prepared to support the transition and outline the tools we can offer the child to ensure their success in the next stage of their development. Lastly, the presenters will highlight the importance of collaboration between Primary and Elementary practitioners along with Administration as they seek to support children and families moving from Casa to Elementary.

Trauma-Sensitive Practice and Montessori:
Nurturing Healing for Children and Adults
How can Montessori environments become sanctuaries for healing in a world where trauma is increasingly common? During this powerful three-hour workshop, we will explore the intersection of trauma-sensitive practice and the Montessori approach. Led by Liza Davis, AMI 3–6 Trainer, Executive Director of the Montessori Center of Minnesota, and holder of a Master’s degree in Trauma and Resilience in Educational Settings, this session offers both a deep dive into the impact of trauma and practical tools for supporting recovery and growth.

We will examine how trauma affects development, learning, and behavior—and how the prepared environment, when grounded in Montessori’s principles and practices, can become a place of restoration and resilience for both children and the adults who care for them. Through storytelling, research, and interactive reflection, participants will:
-
Gain foundational knowledge of trauma’s effects on the body and brain.
-
Explore Montessori’s historical and philosophical roots in healing, including her work with the White Cross.
-
Learn practical strategies for creating trauma-sensitive environments that uphold dignity, agency, and connection.
-
Reflect on adult well-being, vicarious trauma, and the essential role of adult regulation in supporting children’s healing.
Together, we’ll re-center our work around the deeply human task of restoration.
